Robert Louis Stevenson

Robert Louis Stevenson (1850 - 1894) was a Scottish novelist, poet, essayist and travel writer. He published Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in 1886 . It was an immediate success and is one of Stevenson's best-selling works. Stage adaptations began within a year of its publication and it has gone on to inspire scores of major film and stage performances. Stevenson's first success as a writer came six years before the publication of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, when he wrote Treasure Island.

John S. Robertson

John S. Robertson was born June 14, 1878 in Ontario, Canada. From 1915 to 1935, he directed 60 films. With his characteristic handlebar mustache, he had an appearance that was undeniably from the silent film era. This distinctive look inspired the 1967 Byrds song, "John Robertson." After directing the Shirley Temple feature, Our Little Girl, Robertson left the film industry. He died in 1964.

John Barrymore

Part of the famous first family of film, John Barrymore is the grandfather of Drew, and brother to Lionel and Ethel Barrymore. During his career, he acted in 64 films and countless stage plays, successfully making the transition from the silent era to "talkies." One of his greatest roles was in the 1926 film Don Juan, which was the first fully synch sound film, using Vitaphone technology. Barrymore passed away in 1942. His last words were, "Die? I should say not, dear fellow. No Barrymore would allow such a conventional thing to happen to him."
