Master Steve Rapport and Jovanny Garcia
5th Dan Master Steve Rapport received his 1st Dan Black Belt from Grand Master Shin in 1995, and has been teaching at Hwa Rang Kwan ever since. Master Rapport devotes his life to staying on the martial arts' path, which is the 'do' part of Taekwondo. This involves a single-minded pursuit of personal development and growth, both mental and physical. He believes that the defining characteristics of the true martial artist are honesty, integrity, determination, perseverance, respect and, of course, indomitable spirit. He is steadily working towards the elusive goals of balance and harmony of mind, body and spirit.
Instructor Jovanny started his Martial Arts training at the age of 8. Along with his younger sister, they started taking Karate lessons in a local community center in Orange County. At the age of ten, his father forced him to start taking Taekwondo lesson because he was tired of seeing him "lounging around" the house. He studied under Master Seung Hyung Lee for over 10 years. Jovanny participated in many tournaments and was also part of the schools demonstration team. By the time he was a 2nd Dan, he was already an assistant instructor. He left Southern California and his Taekwondo training in order to pursue his BA in Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley. After some experimentation with other martial arts, Jovanny returned to Tae Kwon Do at Hwa Rang Kwan during his last semester in college. Jovanny was promoted to 3rd Dan, and to Senior Instructor, in November 2024.
