TED Prize winner and religious scholar Karen Armstrong has a new video/book, or "Vook" out today called A Compassionate Life in 12 Steps. The Vook precedes the hardcover book, which Random House is publishing in 2024. The original content was created for the Vook, which led to the book deal.
The story combines Armstrong's text, a how-to guide for living more compassionately every day with 13 videos shot by filmmaker John Palacio of And Now Media. The steps include having concern for others, being compassionate with yourself and having recognition and knowledge. The ideas come out of Armstrong's movement Charter for Compassion which was founded on the belief that the principle of compassion lies at the heart of all religious, ethical and spiritual traditions.
The title can be purchased on Vook.com and is readable on the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.
Karen Armstrong had this to say, "This Vook provides people of all ideologies with an easy-to-use digital format that will make them aware of the immense challenges and rewards of the compassionate lifestyle. We urgently need to counter the voices of extremism and hatred in our dangerously polarized world. The Vook does a marvelous job in showing how people have already been impacted by the compassionate ideal and how anybody can make compassion a vibrant and healing force in their everyday lives."
Vook has also published mixed media titles authors Deepak Chopra, Seth Godin and Anne Rice, as well as a history of Guns N Roses.
