An eBook Hits One Out of the Park
by Allison Horton on
Sportscaster and writer Jesse Goldberg-Strassler recently published The Baseball Thesaurus with the help of our VookMakers, turning years' worth of baseball knowledge into a comprehensive eBook that covers everything from at-bats to the World Series. The chapters are broken up alphabetically and all feature vintage photographs. I read the eBook on my iPad and was able to enlarge and zoom in on the images, previewing them in a way that is rarely possible (see for yourself below).
Vook's Adam Schnapper, who designed The Baseball Thesaurus, explained to me the balancing act of sizing the images that went into this and other eBooks: "We kept the photos at a medium resolution—not too big as to increase the size of the eBook and slow down the download time—but big enough for the 'double tap.' On most eReaders, if you double tap on an image, it will expand to a full screen. The images in Baseball Thesaurus are historically interesting, and a reader will likely want to see details like the players' faces and gear by double tapping and zooming. The images have to be high enough resolution to support this experience." Preview, purchase, and download The Baseball Thesaurus on Vook's store. If you want to put your expertise into an eBook—be it informative, instructional, for fun, or all of the above—
