Lewis Carroll Lewis Caroll was the commonly used pseudonym of the English author, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832 - 1898). In addition to being a well-known writer, he was also a mathematician, logician, Anglican deacon and a photographer. Dodgson had several childhood ailments and a pronounced stammer that stayed with him throughout his life. Some say that although he stammered around adults, he was not afflicted when surrounded by children. He is most famous for his two classic novels "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass". Many believe that Alice's character was based on a young woman named Alice Lidell, who was the daughter of one of Dodgson's good friends. Dodgson has denied the connection but critics say there are many superficial references to her in the text of both of these famous children's classics. |
